You were never lost

We spend so much of our lives becoming someone we think we should be. Healing is the slow, brave work of un-becoming — of clearing away what was never yours so the you beneath it can breathe again. You were never lost. You were only covered over.

There's a moment in every healing journey, I think, when you realize you aren't building a new self. You're uncovering an old one — the one who existed before the world told you who to be, before you learned to flinch, before you started performing a version of yourself for other people's comfort. That self is still here. A little tired, maybe. A little surprised to be remembered. But here. And that, more than anything, is what this work is for: the remembering.
